About Me

I am 31 years old and a Colorado Native. I have 3 children ages 8, 7 and 1. I struggled through 3 miscarriages before successfully getting pregnant with my son. My pregnancy was uneventful and 3 weeks before my guess date I woke up to my water leaking. We got to the hospital and they confirmed my water broke, but I was not in labor. We decided to induce vs. go home and wait. I opted for an epidural at 6 cm and an hour later I was complete. It took about 1 1/2 hours to push my son out as I felt nothing. Total labor was about 9 hours.

I successfully got pregnant with my second child without trying. This pregnancy was uneventful as well. On my due date I saw my doctor. I was about 2 cm dilated and we decided to meet at the hospital a while later. He used the Prostaglandin gel and within minutes I was having pressure waves (a.k.a. contractions). At 7 cm I had an epidural and shortly after my water broke and within an hour I was pushing. This time it only took an hour to push baby out as I did have feeling despite the epidural. This birth took about 6 hours start to finish.

New Life

Nearly 6 years later I found myself remarried to a wonderful man who wanted a child of his own. After over a year of trying to conceive and 4 miscarriages we were finally successfully pregnant! Early in my pregnancy I was introduced to Hypnobirth. The concept of Hypnobirthing is that childbirth doesn't have to be painful and that our bodies know how to birth our babies. As I researched more I discovered Hypnobabies. Hypnobabies is a complete childbirth education program. Their goal is to "have an easier, faster and more comfortable natural birth." This is exactly what I was looking for. I began listening to the relaxation cds and later took the Hypnobabies classes. I felt completely confident in myself, my body and my husband. On my due date I had a doctor appointment. I was dilated 3 cm and was 80% effaced. My Mother in Law made a wonderful dinner that is known to put women in labor (link) and we took a one mile walk with the dogs. I woke about 4 am with waves about 20 minutes apart. Gradually they got closer together, but were completely manageable. About 2 pm we decided to head to the hospital. I soaked in the tub and listened to my birthing day cd. I got extremely hot and got out (transition). I spent the next hour standing in a slow dance position with my husband. When a wave hit I would go completely limp. My water broke at 9 cm and within minutes my body began to push! What an intense feeling that was! I pushed baby out in 20 minutes! I gave birth 3 hours after arriving at the hospital. Although my birth wasn't completely pain-free, it was the best - most powerful birthing experience I ever wanted!
